On display throughout autumn 2024: Original Mozart autograph and the world’s largest known Hebrew bible
Every three months, particularly precious items of the permanent exhibition are exchanged. One of the special objects in the current presentation, which can be seen until mid December 2024, is the Erfurt Bible from 1343, the largest known Hebrew parchment Bible in the world. As a result of the Second World War, the Bible was considerably damaged and is now being restored by Staatsbibliothek zu Berlin. Another highlight are two autograph scores by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, namely the ‘Jupiter Symphony’ and the opera ‘Le nozze di Figaro’. The autograph of the ‘Jupiter Symphony’ shows the compositional process of the work. Mozart used different ink mixtures at different times. The ink colours reveal a horizontal application of darker, older ink in the frame parts.
